The Pesky Trap™ is a modular spherical insect pest surveillance system developed to support fruit fly detection, population monitoring, and large-scale field deployment.
The system separates the reusable structural body from the consumable adhesive surface, allowing the trap body to remain in service while only the adhesive wrap is replaced during routine servicing.
This design supports a more efficient and environmentally responsible approach for agricultural, regulatory, and institutional surveillance programs.

Modular Structural Design
The Pesky Trap™ consists of two interlocking plastic hemispheres that assemble into a complete sphere.
This modular configuration supports efficient storage, bulk shipping, and field servicing.
Integrated lateral openings serve two essential functions:
-Secure positioning of the adhesive paper wrap
-Controlled pheromone dispersion during deployment
The durable blue plastic body is engineered for repeated outdoor use, helping maintain structural integrity under field conditions.
External Adhesive Capture System
Unlike fully disposable adhesive sphere traps, the Pesky Trap™ does not rely on adhesive applied directly to the plastic body.
Instead, a replaceable adhesive paper sheet wraps around the assembled sphere. The paper edges are secured through the side openings, covering the external capture surface.
Adhesive is applied directly to the paper surface, creating a uniform capture area while preserving the reusable structure beneath.
This design allows:
-Easy removal and replacement of adhesive sheets
-Reduced material waste
-Lower recurring costs in grid deployments
-Extended lifespan of the trap body
Only the consumable adhesive surface is replaced, not the entire unit.
Lure Integration
Compatible species-specific lures can be positioned within the sphere structure according to program requirements.
The lateral openings support lure dispersion while helping protect internal components from rain and debris.
Attracted insects land on the adhesive-coated exterior surface and are retained for inspection, detection, and population assessment.
